Oscar Isaac ‘would consider’ a Star Wars return as Poe Dameron

November 29th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We just reported that John Boyega has said he’s happy not to be returning as Finn in Star Wars for the time being at least, while his onscreen partner, Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, isn’t quite as adamant he’s not for returning.

In the past, Isaac, whose character was supposed to die in the first movie in the sequel trilogy, The Force Awakens, but was kept after he implored JJ Abrams to keep him in it, has said that he’s done with Star Wars.

And, in fairness, who could blame him? The sequel trilogy started off strong with The Force Awakens but soon fell apart with The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and the fandom made their feelings known in no uncertain terms. And yes, I was one of them, but while I didn’t like the second or third movie, I never felt the problem lay with the three principal cast – Daisy Ridley’s Rey, Isaac or Boyega – in fact, I love those characters, I just think the writing did them all (especially Boyega) a real disservice.

However, it seems that Isaac has softened to the idea somewhat.

A while ago he was asked about his experience making the trilogy, to which he seemed positive overall: “I enjoyed the challenge of those films and working with a very large group of incredible artists and actors, prop makers, set designers, and all that was really fun.

“[For] every actor of a certain generation, those are the films that made them who they are, so that’s certainly my case. It feels like for me a personal turning point and that, as far as I’m concerned, it has nothing to do with the finished product. It’s the process of doing this.”

But would he consider returning for a movie or Disney+ series featuring Poe down the line? “Yes, I would consider it.”

I can’t help feeling that we will see Ridley, Boyega and Isaac back at some stage in the future as their stories – again, especially Finn’s – feel like they have some stuff still unresolved and answered, so I’d be up for it and despite the negativity for the trilogy, I believe, with good writing and stories, the fandom would too.

Thoughts? Would you like to see them all back? I want to hear your thoughts, gang.
