Paul Rudd’s Ghostbusters character details revealed and Aykroyd once again teases Murray’s return

September 15th, 2019 by Marc Comments

I reported a few day ago that Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that he’s back for Ghostbusters 3 next year and he also confirmed that he is ‘hopeful’ Bill Murray will be back (you can red the original report here).

And now, in a new video with ET – watch it here – in which the actor is asked who he’s gonna call and, smiling, he replied: “Of course I’m trying to get my old pal Mr [Bill] Murray to see if he’ll drop in.”

So, here’s the deal, I’m going to put my neck on the block and say that Murray is back for this movie.

But, in the same video, original two movies director Ivan Reitman is asked about Paul Rudd’s role in the movie and he said: “He is a seismologist who’s come to this small town because they’ve been having mysterious earthquakes. He’s also is teaching a summer school in the town.”

We knew before that he was a teacher of some sort, but the seismologist bit is new, so i’m guessing the supernatural activity is causing the earthquakes and he being a teacher and scientist will likely lead to him putting on a proton pack.

On the story, Aykroyd had this to say: “I think it’s a wonderful story because people seem to continue to be interested in 35 years after we came out with the first one. And I think we’re trying to expand it a little bit. And I think Jason’s movie does that. This is a story about a family.

“Although the girls’ movie kept the concept and the ideas alive — and it was really good, they were great in it — it wasn’t like giving it to the new generation, the actual descendants of the original Ghostbusters. So we’re going to link to the DNA old and new there.”

So a passing of the torch? I figured as much…

All very exciting news.

What say you all?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
