Man, we wish these two were the leads in this one!

Sherlock Holmes has seen many adaptations in recent years. It was back in 2009 when Robert Downey Jr played the famous detective alongside Jude Law as Watson. Then in 2010 when we first saw the character in a more modern setting, this time on the BBC, the famous detective was portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. In 2012 CBS followed suit, and after much controversy, released their version of a modern adaptation called Elementary. Then in 2015 Ian McKellen played Sherlock in the film Mr Holmes, a period drama about a more aged detective, who is slowly losing his memory.

Sony has now added to this list with its adaptation titled Holmes and Watson, yet this will be very different to what we’ve seen before. The film will be a comedic take on the famous duo. It is being penned and directed by Etan Cohen.

Veteran English actors Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie have recently joined the cast and will join Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who will play the lead roles of Holmes and Watson respectively. It’s not yet confirmed what Fiennes and Laurie will play but they are rumoured to be well known characters.

The film recently began filming in London and is set for a release sometime in 2018.
