Robert Zemeckis says there’s a great Roger Rabbit sequel script ready to go

It might be some 36 years later but there’s talk of a sequel to the classic live-action/animated Who Framed Roger Rabbit at last!

Or rather there’s talk about why it wouldn’t be able to be made today.

In a new interview, below, to promote his new movie, Here, director Robert Zemeckis has revealed that Disney have a solid script for a Roger Rabbit sequel but he really doesn’t believe it will ever happen.

The reveal to the age-old question: who is Roger Rabbit’s father?

“There is a good script sitting at Disney but here’s the thing. Here’s what you have to know. The current Disney would never make Roger Rabbit today,” says Zemeckis.

“They can’t make a movie with Jessica in it. So there is a [Peter] Seaman and [Jeffrey] Price sequel script. Is it ever going to see the light of day, as good as it is?

“I mean look at what they did with Jessica at the theme park, they trussed her up in a trench coat.”

By the theme park, he means Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride at the Disneyland resort in which Jessica Rabbit has her ample, em, assets covered by a trench coat, left.

Voiced by Kathleen Turner, Jessia Rabbit is a, well, what my granny might have called a sex-pot; she wears a revealing red dress, has a very sexy voice and the joke is that this overly sexual cartoon character is married to none other than Roger Rabbit himself.

However, Zemeckis believes that in today’s ‘everything is offensive and teens believe there’s too much sex on TV’ world, Jessica would never be allowed to be animated, trench coat or not.

Look, back in the day, Roger Rabbit was groundbreaking and it still holds up very well but with stars Bon Hoskins dead and the movie feeling very much like a creature of its time, perhaps having it as a one-and-done classic is the best way to go.

Thoughts? Let me hear them, guys…
