While there any numbers of rumours flying around right now that the story set up in Solo: A Star Wars Story will be finished in a Lando series, a Han Solo series and a Darth Maul and Qi’ra movie, it seems that one thing we won’t be seeing is a movie sequel.
Speaking SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, director Ron Howard, who came in late in the day taking over from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, was talking about the movie and the oft-rumoured sequel.
“Well, there’s no sequel planned now,” Howard says, putting a nail in that coffin
He then describes the movie in the most perfect way, saying it’s an underground Star Wars movie: “It’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”
The fact is that Solo did massively flop at the box office, but the fans – well, many of them – did find the movie late in the game and now there is a lot of support for a sequel and, while I believe Howard is right, I also believe the story will be finished on the small screen, one way or another… in fact, I think Solo’s story might lend itself perfectly to the small screen.
Thoughts on this one, gang?
