Rumour: Is Tatiana Maslany set to play Rebels’ Sabine Wren in the first standalone Star Wars movie?

So, for a while now we’ve been hearing that the first Star Wars spinoff from director Gareth Edwards would feature Han Solo and Boba Fett and a host of Bounty Hunters (here); we’ve also bee hearing that Clone Wars and Rebels are canon and will play a part in the future Star Wars movies – especially Rebels, which chronicles the start of the rebellion.

Well, if this new rumour is true, then it’s going to kick off in a big way.

With much talk that Orphan black star Tatiana Maslany has been cast in the first Spinoff movie (here), it’s only a matter of time until rumours start to emerge upon who she’ll be playing. Now, personally, I thought maybe Ventress or – better still – Ahsoka Tano but it seems the main rumour has her pegged for the role of Sabine Wren, the young Mandalorian member of the Rebels crew.

According to iKwiz: “Tatiana Maslany’s name came up a lot for the role of Sabine, the same character from [Star Wars] Rebels. In this story she’s a little older and a bounty hunter.”

You can watch the full video below and, while we must stress this is rumour, we can certainly see this being possible… look at the shape of her eyes and mouth compared to Sabine (above), not to mention that hair parting… and as for her being a bounty hunter? Well, she has the Mando blood, we’re hearing Boba will be back (maybe he’ll need an apprentice?) and there has been hints in Rebels that she doesn’t feel a part of the crew. We can’t say there’s truth here, but we certainly love the idea and set up.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer.
