After a trilogy of movies, it seems that the Rush Hour franchise really is coming to TV. It’s set to be on CBS, and will indeed star Detective Lee Carter, though not starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.

The pilot will retell the plot of the original story in a way, but then everything else is up for grabs.

Bill Lawerence, the scriptwriter for the series, dropped some new details about the upcoming series.

“New plot, same characters,” he told the outlet. “A little younger, a little different, fish out of water. It’s a cool script. I’m psyched about it.”

Easily one of the key parts of Rush Hour was the martial arts scenes featuring Jackie Chan, so when asked about whether the new Detective Lee would be a martial artist, Lawerence responded…

“The character will be a martial artist,” he said, “but you know how TV works. I’m going to go with the best actor and then I’ll make anything work.”
