Has Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot found its Ramirez?

The legend that is Russell Crowe has joined Henry Cavill in John Wick mastermind Stahelski’s take on the war between immortals, fighting for the ultimate prize.

Cavill will play the lead role in the movie, although we don’t know so far if this is Connor MacLeod as played by Christopher Lambert in the iconic 1986 original, or if this is a new take completely with all new characters.

Going on from there, if Cavill is MacLeod, then who is Crowe, who is reportedly playing a big role in the movie? My money is on Ramirez, MacLeod’s mentor in the original as played by Sean Connery… although he could also be the terrifying Kurgen, originally played by Clancy Brown, though I think Ramirez is more likely.

Stahelski previously said that this new take won’t be told the same as the original, so it’s still very possible that these will be all-new characters in a new take on the classic tale: “We’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the Highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong. There’s a big opportunity for action… and it’s a bit of a love story — but not how you think,” he said.

As a massive fan of the John Wick universe and, going back much, much further, the Highlander franchise (well, the first few movies, anyway), I’m excited to see what this new team do with the story because we all know by now that, nomatter what they tell you, there can be far more than only one.

Highlander starts filming this September in London.

Thoughts, I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
