Well, this came out of nowhere…
It seems that Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play one of the oldest comicbook heroes around, Mandrake the Magician under Get Hard director Etan Cohen.
“The story centers around the adventures of Mandrake, the illusionist and escape artist with the power to hypnotize his foes. With his companion Lothar, he travels the globe solving mysteries and fighting evildoers – including his twin brother who uses his powers for evil instead than good. Sources say that the plan is to update the character for the 21st century, with Mandrake being recruited by the United States government for a secret mission.”
Mandrake, described as America’s first superhero, has been a character in the Defenders of the Earth cartoon series, but hasn’t been in a movie since 1954’s TV movie.
There’s no word on the expected tone of the movie but we anticipate it having a very humorous slant.
