In a recent episode of Collider’s Ladies Night, below, Scream VI star Liana Liberato has revealed a cool detail that was cut from the final movie but actually, to my mind, should have been left in.
Here lie BIG spoilers for Scream VI
In the latest Scream, it is revealed that Liberato’s character, Quinn Bailey, who is believed murdered early on before it is revealed at the climax that not only is she not dead but she is, in fact, one of the three (a franchise first) killers. The other two murderers are her policeman father, Wayne Bailey, played by Dermot Mulroney and her (surprise!) brother Ethan Landry, played by Jack Champion.
The movie for the killings in this movie is that these three are actually the siblings and father of Jack Quaid’s Richie, one of the killers in Scream V, and now they want revenge on all the ones responsible for his death in that movie.
Drew Barrymore believes her Scream character may be able to come back
That’s a fair motive, even of it doesn’t work fully in the sixth movie.
However, the new detail highlighted by Liberto would certainly give more weight to the killers’ reveal. See, personally, I buy the revenge angle but I find it hard to accept that three members of one family decide that killing all these people is the way forward… sure, I can believe one, maybe even a child who wants their dad’s affection, but all three?
So, in the interview, Liberto reveals that in the original script it was revealed that Wayne’s wife, mother to Ethan and Quinn, didn’t agree with the decision to go on a murder spree to avenge Richie and so Wayne decided to kill her too and make Ethan help – as I said, so sons will do anything for a father’s approval.
I think this would go a long way to explain not only where the mother is during the events of the movie but also why both children went along with the spree… the son for approval, the daughter out of fear for her own life… daddy was a cop, who could she go to for help?
Scream VII already in production? And will we see Neve Campbell back for it?
Personally, I love this and feel it would really have added to the events and motivations in the final movie and while it’ll likely become part of the series’ lore anyway it would have been great to see it onscreen.
Thoughts?
