It looks like the next installment in the Scream series could be set for a festive feel.
Yes, a new report from Critical Overlord has stated that Ghostface will be stalking his victims in Scream VII during Christmas time!
“Christmas is one hundred percent the thing that is currently being planned as the setting backdrop for Scream 7,” he says in his new video (below) and he reports that the news was given to him by the same source who first told him about Freaky director Christopher Landon stepping up to direct the seventh movie, picking up from Radio Silence – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – who gave us Scream (V) and Scream VI, which ultimately turned out to be true.
Scream VII nabs Happy Death Day and Freaky director as Radio Silence step down
I’ve heard rumours online that the new movie is set to film later this year or early next year, which has me wondering if perhaps we’re set for a Christmas release too? Yes, Ghostface in cinemas Christmas 2024… I’m so on for that! Although weirdly, he also said the movie is not being filmed in Canada, the home of snow.
I’ve also heard that Neve Campbell, who was absent in Scream VI, is looking more and more likely to return as Sydney Prescott, the character who started the whole Scream saga back in 1996… more specifically, December 1996; could this outing see the end of Sydney, perhaps?
Critical Overlord speculates on why the movie might be set at Christmas – after all, the franchise avoided holidays etc until Scream VI – and he speculated that perhaps Sydney throws a Christmas party, inviting characters from previous movies to celebrate with her, perhaps believing that the Ghostface threat is finally over and then learning it’s not.
It looks like there’s a Scream/Ghostface video game in the works!
I like the idea of Christmas having an actual reason for being in the movie, for being the reason all these characters are together.
On a related bit of news and getting back to Landon and his movie Freaky, Scream Spain tweeted an image of Landon having lunch withBettinelli-Olpin and Gillett along with Freaky writer Micheal Kennedy… we’ve heard rumours that this new movie will have a fourth writer, is this now the writing team? My money in on yes.
What say you all? A festive Scream? A new writer? Let me know your thoughts, guys.
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
