#SDCC2019 Here’s Marvel’s TV and movie line-up for MCU Phase 4 and it’s pretty impressive

July 21st, 2019 by Marc Comments

SO, here’s all the news from SDCC 2019’s Hall H where Kevin Feige laid out the plan for the fourth Phase of the MCU.

So, without further ado, here’s what we learned about the heroes heading to the big and small screen:

Marvel Studios’ THE ETERNALS
Starring:Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh and Don Lee.
Directed by Chloé Zhao.
In theaters November 6, 2020.

“It’s about this group of incredible immortals, but through their journey, we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet,” said director Chloe Zhao.

Rumour is that The Eternals will be the way The X-Men are introduce into the MCU with is being hinted that they will be tinkering with Humanity through the generations, eventually causing mutations to happen… that’ll be Phase 5, then.

Here’s Angelina Jolie talking about joining the MCU:

Here’s  a look at concept art from the movie that appears to show The Celestials, a bunch of giant armoured god-like villains:

Marvel Studios’ THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER
An original series with Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl. Streaming exclusively on Disney+
Fall 2020

Marvel Studios’ SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS
Starring: Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
In theaters February 12, 2021.

Leung will play the real Mandarin in the movie which has me wondering… will we see Trevor Slattery back from Iron Man 3 since last we heard, The Mandarin had had him kidnapped… Ben Kingsley back in the MCU? Yes, please!

Marvel Studios’ WANDAVISION
An original series with Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Teyonah Parris. Streaming exclusively on Disney+
Spring 2021.

Teyonah Parris  will play the the grown up Monica Rambeau, who appeared as an 11-year-old in Captain Marvel, played by Akira Akbar… that’s a future Ms Marvel right there, I’d say.

LOKI
An original series with Tom Hiddleston
Streaming exclusively on Disney+
Spring 2021.

Marvel Studios’ DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen.
Scott Derrickson returns as director.
In theaters May 7, 2021.

Director Scott Derrickson said: “we’re gonna make the first scary MCU film.”

Here’s the clip:

Marvel Studios’ WHAT IF…?
The first animated series in the MCU
Starring Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher and many actors from across the MCU reprising their roles as voice talent:

Streaming exclusively on Disney+
Summer 2021.

Marvel Studios’ HAWKEYE
Starring Jeremy Renner
An original series that will also introduce Kate Bishop.
Streaming exclusively on Disney
Fall 2021.

Here’s the cinematic trailer:

Marvel Studios’ THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman.
Taika Waititi returns as director.
In theaters November 5, 2021.

Word is it will feature Jane Fosters as Thor… Natalie Portman is worthy, it seems.

Also, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be involved in an LGBTQ storyline as Asgard’s new ruler seeks out a Queen to rule alongside her.

“The answer is yes,” Feige said of Valkyrie having a LGBTQ storyline, “How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4”.

Marvel Studios’ BLACK WIDOW
Starring Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz.
Directed by Cate Shortland.
In theaters May 1, 2020.

Black Widow isn’t a prequel but is set post Captain America: Civil War: “I don’t think I could have played this iteration of Natasha 10 years ago, it would have been a very different film,” Johansson said.

“I get to play Natasha as a fully realized woman in all her many facets, and I’m excited to see fans to see what she perceives to be that flawed side of her. And I’m looking to wipe out that red in my ledger.”

Red from her ledger, huh? Loki won’t be happy…

A new piece of concept are has appeared that shows Black Widow fighting the villainous Taskmaster who will have mirror-reflexes – so he can mimic anything he sees someone else doing. Should make for interesting fight scenes….

Now that is quite the line-up, although there’s nothing we didn’t know about in there except for the wonderful Dr Strange tease.

As the event ended, Marvel President Kevin Feige said: “We didn’t even mention that we’re making Black Panther 2,” Feige said as the crowd erupted. “And we didn’t mention that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is coming. We didn’t even have time to talk about Captain Marvel 2, by the way. I didn’t even have time to talk about the Fantastic Four. And there’s no time left to talk about mutants.”

Watch:

But get ready because for the next two years Disney and Marvel own you…

Thoughts on the line-up, guys?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
