Although he died in 2017, aged 77, leaving behind a legacy of zombie/horror movies second to none, George A Romero’s legacy of the undead hasn’t ended yet.
Before his death, Romero was developing Legacy of the Dead, the final movie in his epic zombie saga, and now it’s set to go before the cameras later this summer, with some impressive talent behind and in front of the camera.
The last chapter of this saga takes place on a decimated Earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat, and it will star Underworld’s Kate Beckinsale, with Jerusalem’s Doron and Yoav Paz, AKA the Paz Brothers, directing. Speaking about the project recently, the duo said: “Stepping into Romero’s world is the ultimate privilege for any genre filmmaker.

“This is more than a continuation; it’s a responsibility. We are committed to honoring his voice while delivering a visceral, terrifying, impactful experience for today’s audience that resonates beyond the screen.”
Adding to this, it’s now been revealed that special effects legend Greg Nicotero, who started his long career on Romero’s Day of the Dead in 1985 and frequently collaborated with him on other projects, will join the project too.
The movie will act as the seventh, and final movie, in an overarching story told over Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985), Land of the Dead (2005), Diary of the Dead (2007), and Survival of the Dead (2009).
While Romero struggled to ever replicate the brilliance of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, a new chapter in his world of the undead was always highly anticipated, and while not quite the same, this project could well be a fitting closing chapter.
Thoughts? I know you have them and i wanna hear ’em all.
