Shawn Levy and writer talk about Ryan Gosling Star Wars movie… coming sooner than we thought?

It looks like the new Star Wars project from Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy and the legend that is Ryan Gosling is moving on, full steam ahead!

Back in January, I reported that Levy and Gosling were teaming up on a Star Wars project and ever since there’s been rumours and mumblings, but now Levy and writer Jonathan Tropper are getting a little chatty about the project and it seems it might not be as far away as we all imagined.

Ryan Gosling tipped to star in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie

“That gig is something I’ve dreamed about my whole life. We’re still working on it. For various reasons, I can’t say anything about it. But we’re working on it,” Levy said of the movie which will be set five years after The Rise of Skywalker and will feature all-new characters.

Levy’s last movie, Deadpool & Wolverine was the first massive hit Marvel/MCU has had in a few years and with Star Wars currently in the doldrums, it’s likely Disney are hoping that he and Gosling can make Star Wars great again.

Heck, scooper Daniel Richtman is even reporting that Civil War and Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons, left, has been offered the villain role – no word on if it’s a Sith – in the movie and if you know Plemons’ work, you’ll know he can go from charismatic to terrifying in a heartbeat and would be a great choice.

Writer Tropper has also been chatting about the movie and seems hopeful that it’ll manifest itself sooner than we might think: “I’m really not going to be able to talk about this,” he said, “so yeah, you know, we’re still working on it. Yeah, it’s our fourth project together. It’s the first one since The Adam Project.'”

Saying that he’s excited about it, he added: “I hope it’s on the way sooner than you think.”

With Star Wars Celebration Japan taking place in a little over a week, could we be getting more details then? It certainly sounds like there’s a lot of news to tell.

Either way, while Levy’s involvement wouldn’t have me too excited, Gosling and (hopefully) Plemons would be something that would have me pretty excited. I just hope Star Wars isn’t too far gone and there’s still the fan support to get behind new projects.

Thoughts? I know you have them… I wanna hear them.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
