Shazam Movie to be “Fun” and “Independent”

November 7th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

When DC revealed their slate of movies a few weeks back, one that caught the eye of many was SHAZAM!. This was for two reasons. One, the movie was slated for 2019, and two, a rumor circulated that the movie wouldn’t be as dark as the other DC movies on the slate. This left many to wonder whether the film (whose main character had not been confirmed to be in Justice League) was in fact part of this particular DC Movie Universe.

The answer comes from Black Adam himself, aka Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Who on Twitter said the movie is a “NL/DC property,” and then proceeded to use the hashtag #Independent.

NL stands for New Line, which is actually owned by Warner Bros. However, this serves the rumor that not only is SHAZAM! not a part of the DC Movie Universe, but is only one of the movies that also aren’t in it. This extends to Sandman and the possible Heaven Sent film by Guillermo Del Toro. We’ll have to see how this develops as time goes on.

SHAZAM! is slated for an April 5, 2019 release date.
