Sony pushes back Morbius… yet again

January 5th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Well, it looks like Sony’s Spider-man spin-off movie, Morbius, is set to claim an [unwanted?] prize.

The movie has just been pushed back to April 1st.

That’s not too far away but given that it was originally set for release on July 10th, 2020, July 31st, 2020, March 19th, 2021, October 8th, 2021 January 21st, 2022, January 28th, 2022 (yes, a few weeks from now), this is another head-scratching move.

While some are suggesting that the pandemic is a factor, Spider-man: No Way Home’s massive box office performance puts that to bed as it seems people still want to see movies on the big screen.

I’ve heard that the fact that No Way Home is doing so well is why the delay has happened as Sony doesn’t want the two movies going against each other as Morbius is likely to lose out big time.

We’re also hearing that Sony wants to re-film some stuff which may include Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man making a cameo.

Obviously, we don’t know what the real reason is, but whatever it is, we won’t be seeing the movie for a few months yet.

One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first, it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Directed by: Daniel Espinosa

Cast: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal with Tyrese Gibson

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
