Spider-man 3 official title revealed and have we had the main villain teased?

February 27th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Well, we now have the official title for the third Spider-man movie and, as expected, it does indeed have the word Home in there.

Revealed by stars Tom Holland, Zendeya and Jacob Batalon on Instagram (below), it’s officially… Spider-man: No Way Homeand this came after we got teased with fake titles Phone Home, Home Slice and Homewrecker (more on those in a minute).

The title, while not telling us much, may hint at the much rumoured Multiverse aspect of the movie which will see returning stars from other Spider-man movies return to the series including Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx, who are both confirmed returning to the Spider-man universe.

“The film is incredibly ambitious, and I’m delighted to say that we’re succeeding in making it,” star Holland recently said of the movie, adding: “It’s going really well. We watched a fight scene that we had shot a few weeks ago, and I’ve never seen a fight scene quite like it in the MCU. I’m really excited for audiences to see that.”

However, on the rumoured return of previsous Spider-man stars Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire, he said: “No, no, they will not be appearing in this film… Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

Yeah, we don’t believe him either…

However, there are more fun things to discuss in the Spider-verse right now than just the title of the new movie.

Recently we reported on the apparent spotting of star Willem DaFoe on the set of No Way Home, which obviously had fans excited as DaFoe was Green Goblin in the first Sam Raimi Spider-man movie (here) but something else fun has popped up online.

As we said above, in the lead up to the title reveal, Sony/Marvel revealed three fake titles for the movie but they didn’t just announce the titles, they did art work for them and eagle-eyed fans spotted something very significant the titles… or rather the colours of the titles which were green, purple and silver and may actually tease the main villain of the new movie:#

Yes… these are the colours of Spider-man’s main nemesis… Green GoblinAKA Norman Osborne who was, of course, played by Willem DaFoe in the Riami movie!

Is this a clever way of teasing the fans who the big bad – or one of them at least – is?

One of the other big bits of news is that this movie marks the end of star Tom Holland’s contract at Marvel/Sony and has many worried that it may be the end of Peter Parker in the MCU… after all, Miles Morales is out there an fans would love to see him brought across (although many have pointed out how Holland’s Peter Parker ‘borrows’ a lot of Miles’ elements for his MU incarnation.

However, Holland seems assured that this is all sorted between Marvel and Sony already, so there’s no need to worry: “I’ve always said to them if they want me back I’ll be there in a heartbeat. I’ve loved every minute of being a part of this amazing world. It’s changed my life for the better, I’m so lucky to be here. If they want me back I’ll be there, if they don’t I will walk off into the sunset a very, very happy person because it’s been an amazing journey.”

However, he adds: “The way I understand it is that agreement between the two studios has already happened… I think the two studios have worked that out, and I don’t think that that will be a problem in the future. That said, I’m just the actor and I was a part of a few phone calls during that process, but I think they love working with each other, I think they found a way in which it can be beneficial for both studios, and I’m just kind of like a kid in the middle of it, between two parents during an argument (laughs).”

Mind you, on re-reading that, it does seem he’s not totally confident… after all,we have heard rumours that Miles could become the MCU SPider-man while Peter Parker could move over to Sony alone and, to be fair, if done right, I’d be happy with that.

On last thing that I for one am delighted to see, on the title reveal below, the words “ONLY IN MOVIE THEATERS THIS CHRISTMAS” appear and I’m happy that Sony have decided to hold fast and Spider-man No Way Home will be the theatrical experience it should be.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released on December 17th, 2021.
