If there’s one thing a lot of people – ourselves included – have been talking about after seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was who exactly is Supreme Leader Snoke?

Well now Snoke himself, actor Andy Serkis, has revealed to EW who Snoke is. And it’s not as exciting as we all hoped or speculated.

Serkis says he knows the fans are pacing the floors to find out who he is, with the popular theory being he’s Darth Plagueis, the master of Emperor Palpatine referred to in Episode III. There’s a certain brilliance if that WAS who Snoke was as it would mean a common villain was behind the whole Saga from Episode I to IX.

But Serkis says, sadly, it’s not the case: “When we first started working on it, he had some rough notions of how Snoke was gonna look, but it really hadn’t been fully-formed and it almost came out of discussion and performance.”

It seems that sadly Snoke is… “just Snoke”: “Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful,” Serkis says.

“Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.”

Now, it is possible Serkis is lying or playing coy or that he himself doesn’t really know… but we’ll have to wait until the final Episode in 2020 to know for sure. But we reckon that, unless he turns out to be a very impressive character, we can’t help feel a little disappointed. For now.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
