Stallone developing Rocky prequel series but won’t be appearing in Creed 3

April 16th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like Rocky has a new chapter ahead and is leaving an old one behind in the near future.

It’s been confirmed that Sylvester Stallone will not be appearing in the upcoming Creed III, meaning this will be the first movie in the Rocky franchise the star will not be in.

Stallone appeared in the first two movies in the spin-off series as a mentor to Micheal B Jordan’s Adonis Creed, son of Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers, who was one of the stars of the original Rocky movies.

“This is a Creed franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around him moving forward,” said Jordan.

So, hopefully you guys will love what I’m thinking… I think it’s going to be something special.”

Something about that sounds to me like this may not have been Stallone’s idea… but it certainly is the case that the Creed name is enough to carry the legacy on with or without Stallone. Of course, Stallone said he’d not be in Creed II (here) and he was but something tells me he’s out this time.

However, Stallone himself is still busy with Rocky, with plans to take the character in a new direction.

Yes, Stallone is toying with the idea of developing a young Rocky series, delving into who the character was before we met him in 1976’s Rocky.

“I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel for streaming,” Stallone wrote on social media (below).

It seems he’s planning a ten episode series with a few seasons and wants fans to “Imagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky… a cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!”

Of course, we know Stallone has been touting Rocky and Rambo sequel, prequels and spin-offs for years, so there’s nothing concrete here but it seems that he feels the character still has a story that needs telling and he feels now is the time to tell it.

What say you all? No Stallone in Creed III and a young-Balboa series… are you in or out?

Let me know, guys.
