Holy crap… we really are in the golden age of Stephen King on screen, aren’t we?
With Pet Semetary on its way, along with Dr Sleep, IT Chapter 2 as well as The Dark Tower coming to the small screen (distanced from the movie, thank the beam) and even the awesome Castle Rock series heading to its second season soon – and more, i’ve undoubtedly forgot off the top of my head – we’re really been spoilt.
And it’s going to get better, still.
It seems that The Handmaid’s Tale director Mike Barker is set to bring King and Peter Straub’s 1984 fantasy tale The Talisman to the big screen.
The Talisman follows Jack Sawyer, a young boy in possession of a powerful talisman that can save his mother’s life, who is forced to go on the run from the inhabitants of a magical parallel universe who have discovered how to travel between worlds.
The original novel has a sequel called The Black House, so a second movie is a strong possibility… but let’s get the first one first, huh?
Curiously, The Talisman was always a tale I considered strongly linked – all King’s stories are linked in some way – to The Dark Tower and Rose Madder, so it’ll be interesting to see if any such collection is even alluded to.
But for now, the movie is in the works… let’s see if it actually happens.
We certainly hope it does.
