Well, this was unexpected…
Only a few days ago we reported on the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 and how it will, once again, be directed by the legend that is Steven Spielberg and yet, today it seems that this is no longer the deal.
News ha broken that Spielberg is standing down from directing the movies to hand the reigns to a new story teller who, at this moment, looks likely to be Ford V Ferrari and Logan’s James Mangold. Spielberg will remain as a producer.
While this is certainly a big change, it is being reported that a deal was not made with Spielberg so this means that preparations were not in place for Spielberg to direct yet, despite the movie set to begin in April.
Harrison Ford is still on board, so all is far from lost.
It is worth noting too that Mangold is a superbly talented director and perhaps a new voice is exactly what Indy needs, especially as Ford was recently quoted as saying he doesn’t want to give fans what they expect.
What do you all think? Can Indy still be Indy without Spielberg? Let me know your thoughts…
Indiana Jones 5 is still set for release on July 9th, 2021.
