Temuera Morrison wants to play Captain Rex in a Star Wars movie…

September 24th, 2017 by Marc Comments

So anyone who knows their Star Wars lore will know that the Clones are all genetic copies of Jango Fett, right?

Jango is essentially the father of Boba Fett (another clone) and is the face of all the Clones beneath their masks. And Jango was played in the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones by actor Temuera Morrison.

And it seems that Morrison knows that in Star Wars lore – i.e. the Clone Wars and Rebels animated – some of the Clones have become pretty established as fan favourite characters; none moreso than Captain Rex.

Rex was Anakin Skywalker’s friend in Clone Wars and after Order 66 was given in Revenge of the Sith he fled and lead a life of quiet reflection until he was dragged into the creation of the Rebellion in Star Wars Rebels. And he’s as cool as heck.

So cool in fact that a whole fan theory that Rex is actually in Return of the Jedi (here) was pretty much made canon by Dave Filoni, however it seems that Morrison is throwing his hat into the ring to play Rex in the movies… which makes sense since Rex would, as explained above, have his face.

The actor says: “Then, of course, there’s Captain Rex, who’s an iconic character. I’ve also voiced various games. What’ll make me really happy is if I get the phone call asking me to play another character – an older Captain Rex or something. I want to pop in on one of these new ones, that would be great. Suggest it to them for me! Let’s get on to it!”

For the record, with the standalone Star Wars movies happening, it would make sense to see Rex – he’s a founding member of the Rebellion now – and it would be awesome to see him realised in the flesh.

Perhaps a #TemForRex campaign? Whatever happens, we’re on board…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
