Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote finally filming?!

August 8th, 2014 by Marc Comments

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has become the stuff of movie legend. The on again/off again project from writer/director Terry Gilliam was so famous that a documentary on it was released call Lost In LaMancha.

Well, after a decade or more, Gilliam has confirmed to The Wrap, via Darkhorizons, that he finally has the necessary funding and he hopes to go before the cameras shortly after Christmas.

Although the movie won’t be the same as the one we have been waiting for. Originally the story would have seen Johnny Depp living in the modern day but being sent back in time where he would meet the real Quixote. but it seems Gilliam has had to revise the script, leaving it much more contemporary and about how movies can affect people: “Our main character actually made a Don Quixote movie a lot earlier in his history, and the effect it had on many people wasn’t very nice. Some people go mad, some people turn to drink, some people become whores.”

Changed or not, we cannot wait to take this trip with Gilliam… but it’ll be interesting to see if it can possibly live up to the wait at this stage.

No release date or cast yet, but as we hear, you’ll hear.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
