Everything will be awesome tomorrow as we got a new poster for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part with the full trailer due tomorrow.

Here’s what we know so far:

You may recall at the end of the first movie Finn – the boy playing with his dad’s LEGO toys – sees his army facing off again his little sister who invaded with her Duplo blocks!

How mental is that? So mental that we can’t wait to see where the sequel takes it.

Here’s what the producers spilled:

“The team is all back together, so it’s [Phil] Lord and [Chris] Miller, myself and Chris McKay. Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.”

While Lord and Miller will undoubtedly be a loss for the movie in the directors’ chairs, Mitchell did a surprisingly good job with Trolls, plus this movie will, like the first one, be so much more than it’s individual, em, building blocks.

“The Duplo represents Finn’s sister… she’s coming in, and that’s the major thing that the movie is about. What’s different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs how a girl plays? What kinds of stories are there? Chris and Phil are super f@#king smart and really thoughtful and sensitive writers. The kinds of questions and the interesting ideas that they’re getting into with this movie, it’s going to be like the first LEGO Movie was, where it’s about something else that’s really profound.

“It’s about these things that are actual notions that people have that might even be unconscious biases, where people don’t even realize that that’s the way they’re looking at the world. You can do that in a movie like this, and still have it be a great musical with fun songs, and have action and all of the other crazy things we’re gonna get into with that movie.”

But, interestingly, the movie may be split in a way we haven’t seen in The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie or the upcoming Ninjago LEGO Movie: “Every one of our movies, so far, have been told from the point of view of one kid’s imagination. The LEGO Movie 2 will be the first one told through two kids’ imaginations – Finn and his sister. It’s going to be really interesting juxtaposing those two different visions.”

So an animated adventure that is actually tackling the BIG issues? It’s not exactly a new notion, but it’s certainly one that needs done properly… and in this crew of people we have enormous faith.

Do you?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
