The casting for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of ‘Ready Player One’, is slowly beginning to narrow down.
A brief description of the story is as follows: “When the creator of a popular video game system dies, a virtual contest is created to compete for his billions. A contest users are willing to kill to win,” and Nick Robinson is said to be first choice for lead character of Wade Watts. The character of Art3mis, Wade’s main opposition for the multi-billion OASIS prize, hasn’t yet started casting.
However, Elle Fanning, Olivia Cooke and Lola Kirk seem to be the top hopefuls with Elle the favourite.
Fanning has worked with Spielberg before in his film Super 8. She has also starred more recently in Maleficent and voiced in The Boxtrolls.
Cooke has been seen in A&E’s Bates Motel. However, her most memorable role was as Rachel in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Her role gained her loads of attention from casting directors and she is now on the shortlist for Star Wars VIII because of it (here).
Lola Kirk recently appeared as Greta in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. This was a more minor role however, and although she has been in several films and television shows, her recognition as a film star is very minor.
The release is set for 15th December 2017, plenty of time to decide, then.
