The Rocketeer is getting a reboot/sequel as Disney are developing a new adventure that will be set in the same universe as the 1991 movie.
And we all say ‘yay!’.
The new movie will pick up six years after the original movie with Max Winkler and Matt Spicer writing the script which will be called The Rocketeers and will see a young, black actress take the lead.
In the original movie Billy Campbell played Cliff Secord, who found the Rocket pack and was tasked with saving it from falling into the hands of dastardly Nazi Timothy Dalton. It was directed by Joe Johnston.
It’s a rip-roaring adventure in the spirit of the Indiana Jones movies and was much loved by this writer as a kid.
Like many of our favourite movies, it didn;t perform at the box-office but has since taken off (ahem) and become a cult favourite among fans.
“Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jet-pack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War.”
The world needs a hero like the Rocketeer again and we’re so behind this… especially as it’s a sequel and not a full reboot.
