It looks like Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is not keen on stepping into James Gunn’s shoes for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
The director, who changed the face of the MCU with Ragnarok, was everyone’s favourite choice for the Guardians gig after the firing of James Gunn because he has a visual and comedy tone that would fit well into the world of Starlord and the gang, but Waititi wants nothing to do with it: “Nope. Not doing that movie,” he said at the Television Critics Association press tour.
“I’m hanging out with [Marvel] still. Talking about new stuff, but I don’t know what that might be yet. I want to do another movie.”
But the director wants to stay clear of it as it’s Gunn’s baby and he doesn’t feel it’s up to him to take the reigns: “For me, that’s James’ film. Going into something like that, which has got his stamp all over it, it would feel like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad’.”
Gunn of course has headed to DC/Warners to bring us the next Suicide Squad movie, so as of yet the third Guardians is stuck in limbo, however, Starlord himself, Chris Pratt, has assured fans that the third Guardians movie WILL happen, saying: “I promise there’ll be a third movie. I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way.”
Hmmmmmmm… time will tell, but we’d love to see the band back together.
