Todd Phillips back for Joker 2

May 30th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It’s hardly a surprise that Warner Bros wants a sequel to Joker after it was made for $55m and made over $1bn but it was always a question if it would actually happen given how complete and unique a movie experience it was.

However, it seems that Todd Phillips, director and co-writer of the movie has signed on at the studio to co-write Joker 2 with Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his performance,  expected to return for the sequel to take the Batman villain one step closer to becoming the iconic bad guy we know and love.

The new report says that Phillips will pen the “next Joker installment” but as of yet, it’s unclear who will be writing with him as of now. It’s also unknown if Phillips will be directing the movie but, given the look and feel – and success – of the first movie, we’d expect him to step up once more.

According to a report from THR, Phillips will return to pen the script for “the next Joker installment.” It’s unclear whether or not original co-writer Silver will also be coming back for the sequel, but Phillips’ return suggests he’ll also likely be directing Joker 2. Warner Bros. has announced a large number of new, relatively independent DC film projects over the past year, and it should be interesting to see how Joker’s unique style fits into those future plans.

Presumably, the movie will focus further on Joker’s fall into insanity but if it will eventually set up a Batman for this standalone universe is unknown at this stage… however, if I had my choice, I would love to see this universe’s Victor Fries or Jonathan Crane or one of the countless iconic Batman villains out there, waiting to be given their moment in the spotlight.

Anyway, I hope they can capture the brilliance of the first movie again because, if they can, then we’re all in for a real treat.

Thoughts? I want to hear them…
