While Brendan Fraser’s Mummy movies may still be pretty fresh in our minds, we’re looking ahead to Tom Cruise’s upcoming Universal Monsters version.
The second movie in the studio’s new ‘monster shared universe’ The Mummy will pick up after the decidedly lacklustre Dracula Untold.
The new movie, due next year directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by Jon Spaihts, sees Cruise playing a former special forces officer with Annabelle Wallis playing a scientist and Sofia Boutella playing the monster of the piece.
Now the movie has an official synopsis:
“Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
So there you go… are you excited to see a universe open up that will include The Invisible man, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and much more?
