As someone who actually quite liked the new Tomb Raider when it was released in 2018, I’m excited to see where it goes in the future.
The first movie saw Alicia Vikander step into the shoes of Angelina Jolie as the Tomb Raider franchise go a reboot taking it back to basics and introducing us all over again to Lara Croft and now it seems the second movie is officially on its way.
Misha Green, who developed the HBO adaptation of Lovecraft Country, is set to write and direct the sequel, once again starring Vikander, and will serve as Green’s first directing gig.
The movie had previously been tapped to direct the movie which he would co-script with Amy Jump, however, with Green stepping in, Wheatley is moving to write and direct The Meg 2 instead.
Green, impressively wrote or co-wrote every episode of Lovecraft County and directed one episode too.
The Tomb Raider sequel has found a new director: Misha Green, who developed the HBO adaptation of Lovecraft Country. This film, which marks Green’s feature directorial debut, will bring back Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. At one point, filmmaker Ben Wheatley was announced to helm the movie, with a script from frequent collaborator Amy Jump. But now Wheatley has moved on to The Meg 2, and Green will write and direct the film.
Deadline broke the news that the Tomb Raider sequel will now be written and directed by Misha Green. Green developed and wrote, or co-wrote, every episode of HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
The sequel was originally set to arrive this March but obviously, that’s not going to happen now, but we’ll keep you posted as and when we get any new details on the movie.
Are you excited for a new Tomb Raider movie? As I said above I enjoyed the first movie and how it grounded Lara in the real world, so I’m certainly looking forward to putting down my money and checking the sequel out too. What say you all?
