Two different rumours about blade’s big screen return for you, guys…

March 22nd, 2019 by Marc Comments

With Marvel’s MCU moving into unchartered territory with their next chapter, we’re all wondering what characters will be making it into the line-up in coming movies.

One character that we really want to see appear in the MCU is Blade.

Immortalised (ahem) by Wesley Snipes in the trilogy of movies in the 90s, the character is a half-human/half-vampire who can walk in day light – hence the ‘Daywalker’ name –  and has all of the powers of vampires… however, he still wrestles with his need for blood which threatens to pull him fully over to the side of the demon within him.

He’s a character that is long overdue making a comeback – hell, Snipes himself has teased a return several times – and now we have two potential leads about Blade’s big screen return.

A source – we know, ok? – close to Marvel has revealed that Disney/Marvel may be looking at bringing Blade back in an r-rated reboot as part of the MCU with Snipes involved.

“The studio has a script which sees The Daywalker training his daughter, Fallon Grey. But this has not been confirmed.”

Now, we reported a loooooong time ago (here) that this was a possibility at Marvel/Disney, so there may be something to this.

Snipes himself recently had this to say:  “There are a lot of conversations going around right now, and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world, and when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years. Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

Now, this is all great and we’re enthusiastic about it.

However, the official twitter account of the Mobius: The Living Vampire movie from Sony starring Jared Leto poster a video (below) of star Tyrese Gibson practicing some stunt work – he has signed on for a mysterious role and has a three-picture deal – and his back flip has fans speculating that he may be the Daywalker… Blade.

Now, Blade and Morbuis have history in the comics and we’ve reported several times that there are connections between Sony and the MCU that are possibly going to become more prominent soon, so could Gibson BE Blade?

Well, we all know that Jake Gylenhal is playing Mysterio in Spider-man: Far From Home and some have speculated that the character was originally set for Sony’s Marvel universe so perhaps a deal was made… would Disney have given them Blade for Mysterio? Well… nothing is impossible.

What say you all?
