UK top ten box office countdown (WE 22 July 2013)

July 25th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Well there was very little change with this week’s chart, especially when it comes to the number one spot with Monsters University holding on to the top spot for a second week and only suffering a 16% drop in takings.

Two new films entered this week’s top ten, first off going in at number nine was thriller The Frozen Ground, starring Nicolas Cage. The only other new entry in this week’s chart went to the final part in the cornetto trilogy, The World’s End which went in at number two, the film did nowhere near what was expected of it, taking much less than Hot Fuzz and Paul which both took more than £5m in their opening weekend.

New Releases – Not very much out for a second week in a row and that’s why the overall takings are down again on this time next year, so let’s hope The Wolverine the only new film this week can turn that around.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
