The past few years have been glorious for superhero fans and Star Wars fans alike. However if you’re a monster movie fan, your time is about to come. Today Universal has announced that another monster movie will be added to their forthcoming Universal Monsterverse line up.
We already know that a reworking of The Mummy is set to hit theaters in June of next year, the new movie however remains a mystery. That being being said, the speculation according to Coming Soon is that the mystery film will be The Invisible man, with Johnny Depp playing the titular character. A third film, The Wolfman, is also said to be in the works.
Word is that Alex Kurtzman is helming The Mummy with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts of Prometheus fame with Sofia Boutella playing the mummy and Tom Cruise in a mystery role. While Fargo executive producer Noah Hawley will be writing the mystery film.
This seems to be a pretty good start to a cohesive monster universe. No word yet if new films will be set up in after credit scenes, or if they will eventually team up to fight an alien invasion in New York.
In related news, according to Variety, Russell Crowe is in early talks to play a Dr. Jekyll-type role, with the character first making an appearance in “The Mummy” starring Tom Cruise.
