As we’re getting ready for the final Fast & Furious movie, Fast Forever, in March 2028, star Vin Diesel has revealed that the adventure is far from over as the Fast universe is getting a major expansion.
Speaking at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation in New York on Monday, Diesel revealed that Hulu is bringing a Fast & Furious series – or maybe four – to the small screen: “For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more.
“They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered. And I had to wait till it was right… It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family, would be protected in the TV space.
The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the ‘Fast and Furious’ universe.”
Wait, four shows? Well, it seems that Hulu are definitely committed to one series based in that world, with others being developed, but not set in stone at this point.
There are no story details as of yet on this new series – or the other three, I suppose – so we don’t know yet if it’s a prequel, a sequel, or a new story altogether, but rest assured, I will keep you updated.
Over the years, various Fast & Furious spinoffs happened (Hobbs and Shaw) and almost happened (the family-led Fast movie), heck, there’s even an unofficial Fast & Furious movie with Better Luck Tomorrow from frequent Fast & Furious director Justin Lin which starred Sung Kang as Han, better known from the Fast series; there’s even an animated TV series already an animated series, Spy Racers, which had a self-contained six season series, so having more stories in that universe is far from unexpected.
Gina Carano ‘has had talks’ with Filoni and Favreau… Cara Dune returning to Star Wars?
The show will be showrun by Sons of Anarchy’s Mike Daniels and Shades of Blue’s Wolfe Coleman.
Peacock is a smart choice for Fast & Furious given that it’s already dipped its toes in franchise shows such as The Continental, based in the John Wick universe, not to mention the much-better-than-it-should be Twisted Metal, which shares road-based carnage with the Fast & Furious franchise.
Given that the franchise has earned over $7bn worldwide since it kicked off in 2001, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the story is aiming to continue in different media.
Ok, so, 25 years later, a live-action Fast and Furious series is looking like it’s coming. Will you be watching?
Thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
