Vin Diesel confirms female-led Fast and Furious spinoff movie

May 3rd, 2020 by Marc Comments

Despite the ninth movie in the franchise being delayed due to that damned virus, The Fast & Furious franchise is alive and well and in pretty darned good shape.

While the latest outing was originally set for this month, it has now been pushed back to April 2nd, 2021; but this is the only bad news for the series as the animated series, Spy Racers looks set for a second season, the tenth movie is rumoured to be a two-parter and the first spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw is already getting prepped for a sequel.

And now Vin Diesel, currently fighting for a producer credit on the franchise, is talking about the planned female-centric spinoff.

“I’ve created a female spin-off. And that script comes next month, so we will see,” the star says.

Star of the last two movies, Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel said of the idea: “I think it should be like a badass girl movie. It would be cool to have like a sort of Charlie’s Angels-type vibe with all the women. I think that’s kind of fun.”

Michelle Rodriguez has been in the franchise since the 2001 original and has previously hinted that she would love to see Charlize Theron’s villainous Cipher come over to the side of the angels (although given what she did in the last movie, I really can’t see that happening): “See what Charlize is doing? We’d be like, ‘Can we talk you into being a good girl?’ She’s so bad into this, right? She’s so mean. I love her, though.”

While many see the movies as a male-centric franchise, it has a cast full of awesome ladies with, as well as Rodriquez and Theron, has Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot, Vanessa Kirby, Helen Mirren, Gina Carano and Rhonda Rousey, so building a badass franchise around the fairer sex shouldn’t be a problem at all.

And, if it’s as fun as the rest of the franchise, then I’m in… what about you all?

In related news, Page Six has reported that Ben Stiller has “A small role” in Fast 9.

“In what would be a fascinating casting decision, Page Six is told that Ben Stiller will have a role in the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Even though the Zoolander star isn’t exactly known for his high-octane petrol-head performances, we’re told that Stiller is due to begin shooting scenes for F9 soon.”

Now, wouldn’t that be a weird turn-up? But, let’s be honest, at this stage it wouldn’t surprise me who turned up in this franchise.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
