Believe it or not (not counting Groot in the MCU), Fast & Furious is not Vin Diesel’s only big franchise as he has the Chronicles of Riddick series too and, while it seems like forever since we heard anything (here), it seems the fourth movie is finally set to go into production.
First appearing as Riddick in Pitch Black in 2000, Diesel has worked with writer/creator David Twothy on The Cronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick in 2013 and now the duo are reuniting for the fourth outing of Richard B Riddick.
The fourth movie, as we already knew, was to be called Riddick: Furya and it seems that’s still the case, with Twothy having finished the script and filming getting ready to go.
“David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It’s just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that,” Diesel says.
“But I believe we’re shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome.”
However, that isn’t the only potential extension of the Riddick story as fans will recall that, before animates instalments were cool, Riddick had the animated movie Dark Fury, but it also had a couple of very cool games continuing the story with Assault on Dark Athena and Escape from Butcher Bay – and it seems that that type of storytelling is also set to continue.
“We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay,” Diesel says, “It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter. But definitely, the [movie’s] script is already written. So it’s safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick.”
Much like the Fast franchise, I can’t help but love the Chronicles of Riddick movies, with them being a hell of a lot of silly fun, so I’ll be there opening night for Futya when/if it opens. I’ve never played either of the previous games but I have just ordered them on ebay, so I can complete my Riddick adventures… until more come along.
What about you all? Any Riddick fans in the audience? If so, I want to hear what you all think.
