Warners/DC cast Cassandra Cain for their Birds of Prey movie…

November 18th, 2018 by Marc Comments

It looks like the Birds of Prey movie has signed up its main cast with Cassandra Cain now cast.

The role will be played by Newcomer Ella Jay Basco.

Now, given that Basco is, as we said a newcomer, it’s not possible to say how she’ll be in the role (she’s had very minor roles in a few US sitcoms), but with her joining Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Huntress and Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Ewan McGregor as the villain of the piece, Black Mask, we have to expect that director Cathy Yen and the Warner/DC folks know what they are doing.

In the comics Cain eventually becomes Batgirl but long before that, she is established as the daughter of assassin David Cain and Lady Shiva who is deprived of speech and human contact as part of her training to become the world’s greatest assassin.

And, while this is all very exciting, the thing that has my pulse racing is the notion that we have a DC cinematic universe where Lady Shiva is out there somewhere… and if she doesn’t someday go up against Ben Affleck’s Batman we’ll be seriously miffed.

We’re very excited for this one… are you?
