WATCH: Ava DuVernay gets excited over directing DC/Warner’s New Gods movie

May 22nd, 2018 by Marc Comments

You may recall a while back we reported that A Wrinkle In Time director Ava DuVernay (here) and now she’s been talking about it on TV!

The director was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers and Meyers, a self acknowledged DC Fan, asked what we can expect from the project, given that it’s not your standard superhero movie and DuVernay stepped forward with the DC knowledge: “[It’s] not just a superhero movie. New Gods, Jack Kirby’s New Gods. It is sublime. So good.”

The New Gods was the Genesis of the uber-villain Darkseid. Also called “Fourth World,” the Kirby creation debuted in a trilogy of related comics written and drawn by Kirby that were published in the very early 1970s: New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle. The New Gods came into existence after the world of the gods of classic mythology were destroyed during Ragnarok. The deities inhabit two planets: one is New Genesis, a lush paradise, and the other Apokolips, which sounds like Dante’s version of hell.

DuVernay’s excitement left her visible excited as she tried to put into words: “Once they [audiences who may not know who the New Gods are] know… it’s one of the most lush… the best one.”

When we’ll see the New Gods movie is anyone’s guess, but with their existence set up in the Justice League flashback scene, they should definitely be a movie worth the wait but with Batman, Flash, Man of Steel 2, Nightwing, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, Bird of Prey, Suicide Squad 2, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Booster Gold and Justice League Dark all at various stages of production, it could be a while away yet.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
