WATCH: Frank Grillo drops major tease about the next Captain America

October 25th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Ok, so you MCU fans will recall that a couple of weeks ago it looked like Chris Evans revealed that he had finished playing Captain America (here) and then he retracted it… sort of (here) but now we’re wondering if there IS something to it.

Look, let’s be honest, I think everyone is expecting at least one of the founding Avengers to die-off in Avengers 4 and we’re favouring it being Cap, sadly.

But if this happens, what next? Well…

In the video below Winter Soldier and Civil War star Frank Grillo chatted with Larry King and the topic of Captain America came up (oddly) and the star had some interesting – although the fans were probably already thinking this – news.

“There’ve been rumors,” says Grillo, “that Captain America could be African-American. It could be a woman. You know? So they’re looking.”

Now we all know that in the comics both Bucky Barnes (played Sebastian Stan in the movies) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie in the movies) have both been Cap and there was also a version of him that saw Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell in the MCU) in the suit, so the options are open.

But… well, Carter is dead in the MCU now (and we know her niece is out there, but is she a major enough character?) and we know the fans’ imaginations went mental after The Winter Soldier caught Cap’s shield in Winter Soldier but we have to say, we think Mackie’s Sam Wilson AKA Falcon will be our next Captain America.

But the door is open for someone else to step into the role…

What say you all? Who do you think will be the next man with the shield in the MCU? Let us know…

Avengers 4 is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Evangeline Lilly, and Josh Brolin.

Thanks returns on May 3rd, 2019.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
