Man, I don’t know want to make of this… but I know the talent behind it is unreal and the trailer makes it look very tongue-in-cheek and funny, so I guess I’m in!
Following the success of the LEGO Movie, it’s pretty clear that, in the right hands, anything can be a rewarding watch and with Lady Bird and Little Women’s Greta Gerwig directing, we expect something fresh and interesting if nothing else. The balls on this movie using 2001 as the trailer’s inspiration is something else though lol.

The cast too is something to raise an eyebrow or two with Margot Robbie as the titular lead and Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s long-time fella, Ken. Joining them is Shang-Chi star Simu Lui, and the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa and, with a script that sees a doll living in Barbieworld having to leave due to her flaws, it could be something of a thinkpiece too. but I wouldn’t bet on this being the next Blade Runner.
Anyways, it has our attention and we will likely be there on 21st July, 2023 to see if it holds up.
