Well, if you’ve seen Black Adam then you are likely not as surprised as some at this announcement but if you haven’t, Henry Cavill is back as Superman!!!
For some time now, it was pretty clear that Cavill’s Superman was going to have a brief but game-changing appearance in Black Adam; with the old Warner Bros regime out, the new regime wanted Cavill’s Superman back and got him in as quickly as possible, when Dwayne Johnson talks about the hierarchy of the DC universe changing he was just talking about himself.
Gone are the headless cameos and silhouetted appearances as Cavill has stepped out of the smoke in Black Adam and now on Instagram.
Appearing on camera along with his Man of Steel suit as worn in the movie (with a more yellow ‘S’) and the Superman hair curl, Cavill tells fans: “I wanted to wait the weekend before posting this because I wanted to give you a chance to watch Black Adam.”
On the post itself, Cavill wrote: A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.
We learned that Ben Affleck’s Batman is set to appear in The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom a while back (here) and now with Cavill back, it seems that the old Justice League team is set for a bright future at DC/Warners (we’ll have a report of Affleck again soon) as the word is that a Man of Steel sequel is currently in development and directors are currently being considered including Mission: Impossibles Christopher McQuarrie who has been trying to get a Superman project off the ground for a long time.
Fans have been crying out for years to have Cavill back as the Man of Steel while the higher-ups at Warners, for whatever crazy reason, were adamant that it wasn’t happening, however now it really does seem that, for the time being at least, the studio is really listening to the fans.
It’s great to have you back Kal-El, welcome to the planet. Again.
