WATCH: Here’s Emperor Palpatine’s message telling the galaxy he was back that didn’t make it into Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

So, you may have been just as confused as we were in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker when the open crawl informed us that Emperor Palpatine was back.

‘The Dead Speak!’ the crawl informed us, and that’s how we learned that Emperor Sheev Palpatine, last seen alive on board the second Death Star some 35 years ago, was, in fact behind everything and still quite operational himself.

And, while this is far from the most confusing thing in the movie, it’s certainly one of the things that irked me the most.

Apparently JJ Abrams had wanted to put in the movie that message that alerted the galaxy to the return of the Sith master (who has been controlling the events of all nine movies) but simply couldn’t work out where.

And so, he put it in… Fortnight. The video game.

Now, if that’s not a metaphor for just how narratively screwed Disney’s trilogy is, I don’t know what is.

Anyway, someone was kind enough to upload the clip from the game.

Listen to it below and ponder… was it really impossible to put this in the movie somewhere? No, I don’t think so either.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
