Despite Patrick Stewart saying that neither he nor Ian McKellan would be returning for X-Men: Apocalypse (here), rumours have persisted that McKellan’s Magneto would be appearing but the actor himself has just put an end to these.
Currently out promoting his new movie, Mr Holmes, the actor sat down with Digital Spy (below) and put to bed any rumours that he would be back. For now, at least: “I don’t think I am, no, no, they are currently making the film and I’m not in it. I was very happy to be a part of the films but I have other things to be doing. I’ve just done Mr. Holmes, I just done some filming for a sitcom, a film for BBC TV with Anthony Hopkins, so there are compensations for not getting caught up in blockbusters.”
It’s sad to think that McKellan and indeed Stewart may be done with Magneto and Professor X, when they have made the roles so much their own over the years, but it’s a heck of a superhero legacy to leave behind should they not return.
