We know that a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie has already been given the green light and the third one just passed the $300m mark on a $122 budget and now star of the franchise Jim Carrey is talking about returning… again to the series.
Carrey, who is not retired from acting or at least doesn’t know what retired actually means, has played the villainous Dr Ivo Robotnik through all three movies and in the third one doubled up, playing Robotnik’s grandfather, Gerald, too.
And now he’s optimistic that once again, he might be returning to make Team Sonic’s life difficult.
“I’m definitely open,” the star says when asked about returning for a fourth outing, “I’m open to the idea, and generally, they come to me with the next idea, and if I go, ‘that sounds fun’, then I’ll do it. I don’t feel locked to anything in life, unless it’s something that interests me.
“I certainly love this crew, I love this gang that makes these movies, and I love the fans. There’s a lot of really great energy around it, great responses, and the fans jump in and say, ‘how about if you do this?’ They’ve been super helpful. I think we’re all making this movie together.”
It certainly sounds like he genuinely loves making these movies and, there’s no point in lying, he gives the series the star power it needs and, as a bonus, he’s great fun as Robotnik and in the third movie felt like he was finally allowed to fully cut lose and give the role a bit more Carrey than the previous two, so I would imagine that the next movie will certainly be hoping to have him return and, providing he likes the script, it sounds like he’s up for it.
Bring it on, this is honestly one of the most surprising franchises around, so I’m ok with it having the same villain for a fourth outing, especially when it’s Jim Carrey.
Thoughts? I wanna hear ’em all!
