Man, what a time to be a John Wick fan!
We have three big bits of Wick news for you guys tonight and, as a massive fan of the franchise, all of it has me pretty excited.
First up, we have the full trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4 which picks up after John’s betrayal at the end of the third movie and sees him on a mission to overthrow the high table once and for all.
The series is utterly insane and I love it for that and cannot wait until March next year for the fourth movie to hit.
Here’s the trailer:
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.
The movie stars Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane.
John Wick Chapter 4 opens on March 24th, 2023
Next up is the news that we may be soon able to get involved in the John Wick universe in a way that’s much more interactive that just watching the movies.
Lionsgate is currently looking at a John Wick major video game adventure. The studio’s CEO Jon Feltheimer said of a potential game: “I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of ‘John Wick.’ We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that at this time.”
An AAA game means it is a game with a large budget that is expected to be a big, mainstream hit along the lines of Resident Evil or God of War.
This is exciting stuff.
The final bit of news is the the first spin-off movie – The Continental limited TV series will arrive next year – from the Wick franchise, Ballerina, has started filming.
The movie will star No Time to Die and Blade Runner 2049 star Ana De Armas as the titular Ballerina who was trained at the ballet school run by Angela Huston’s character in the third Wickm movie, Parabellum. It will follow De Armas’ character in her quest to exact revenge on the people that killed her family and will be directed by Die Hard 4 and Underworld’s Len Wiseman from a script by John Wick 3’s Shay Hatten with some touch-ups on the script by Promising Young Woman’s Emerald Fennell.
As of now, there’s no more details about release date, cast etc but we’ll be getting all that soon enough, I’d imagine.
So, there you have it John Wick fans, a cracking trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4, a possible massive video game adventure on the horizon and Ballerina already filming. Oh, and The Continental prequel limit series coming next year.
