So, two things, firstly, yes, I know this footage has been around for a while and, secondly, I don’t care… I’ve always been fascinated by how Robin was originally set to appear in the 1989 Batman movie.
So, the clip has been shared in the last few days by star Mark Hamill and it a storyboard from the movie’s original script and has Joker – voiced by Hamill – and Batman – voiced by Kevin Conroy.
The clip would have taken place after the scene in the movie when Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) pretends to have been killed by Koer (Jack Nicholson) in Vicki Vale’s apartment. In the finished movie Bruce simply vanishes, but originally he was meant to have given chase to Joker and his gang through the streets of Gotham.
I remember reading the novelisation of the movie, but don’t thing this scene was in there.
So, I’ll leave it here and let you watch the clip. I would like to have seen how Robin would have worked in Burton’s universe but, alas, it wasn’t to be. And, just for the record, this is a DARK scene…
Let me know your thoughts.
This rare clip from an early draft of the 1989 Batman movie introduced Robin but was later scrapped. @RealKevinConroy & I voiced the storyboards for the sequence- most likely for a bonus on a DVD release. I’m seeing it today for the very 1st time. ENJOY. https://t.co/o2zFR7Fw8W
