WATCH: Michael Keaton talks putting the Batman suit on for The Flash

October 8th, 2021 by Marc Comments

So, you may know that we’re very excited for Michael Keaton’s return to the role of Batman in the upcoming Flash movie… I mean, we may have mentioned it once or twice (here).

And now the actor has been chatting about putting the suit back on for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns.

In The Flash it’s expected that Ezra Miller’s Flash will enter the multiverse via the Speedforce and will meet characters from other Dc universes, one of which is Keaton’s world from Tim Burton’s two movies – this means that Keaton will be playing an older version of the character, something the fans have wanted to see for years.

Speaking to Stephen Colbert (below), Keaton remarked that, all these years later, the suit “still fits” and that he’s managed to keep his body in “the same dimension” for the thirty years in between.

He also commented that he had finished filming his part for the movie and, since we learned that the movie wrapped production today, that makes sense.

Keaton had previously talked about returning to the role, saying: “In the back of my head, I always thought, ‘I bet I could go back and nail that motherf@#ker. And so I thought, ‘Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can pull that off.’ “

He also reflected on how, as an older man, his approach to Batman changed and he finally felt like he got the character: “What’s really interesting is how much more I got [Batman] when I went back and did him. I get this on a whole other level now. I totally respect it. I respect what people are trying to make. I never looked at it like, ‘Oh, this is just a silly thing.’ It was not a silly thing when I did Batman. But it has become a giant thing, culturally. It’s iconic. So I have even more respect for it because what do I know? This is a big deal in the world to people. You’ve got to honor that and be respectful of that. Even I go, ‘Jesus, this is huge.’ “

There’s no arguing that Keaton’s take on Batman was iconic as it changed the superhero movie landscape. Gone were the bright, gaudy heroes, replaces with dark, serious ones; Tim Burton and Michael Keaton’s take was the door that opened to the comic book golden cinema era we live in now.

Anyways, check out the interview below and let us know if you’re as excited for his return as we are.

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson; it also stars Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, and Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, replacing Billy Crudup as Barry’s father after his appearance in Justice League.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on November 4th, 2022.
