OK, fact fans, who knew Blade Runner was 35 this year? No, well it’s ok… we can’t believe it’s that old either!
In way of celebration, EW have given us a new behind the scenes from the upcoming sequel Blade Runner: 2049 called Blade Runner 2014 Time To Live and, honestly, it’s a stunning return to the world created by Ridley Scott all those years ago.
Arrival director Denis Villeneuve, who is the man bringing one of cinema’s most beautiful world back to the screen, tells EW that: “We are running towards the finishing line right now. We are elated. It feels like Christmas as we look at the completed shots.”
The world of the new movie, while unquestionably connected to the world of the original movie, has moved forward in a similar way to our own, with the technology having holograms all over the place, showing the advancements this particular version of earth as made.
And speaking of moving forward 35 years, Harrison Ford, clearly nodding at Indiana Jones and Star Wars, comments in the clip: “I think it’s kind of fun to play a character 30 years later.
“The story, the themes, the stunning visual environments — it was a pleasure to get back in the world of Blade Runner again.
“I’m used to trying on old clothes. Happily, they fit.”
We were sceptical at first but the more we see, the more we cannot wait to get back into this version of LA.
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
It stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and Jared Leto, along with Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks and Barkhad Abdi.
It’s directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters Oct. 6.
