WATCH: The Dark Tower director confirms the movie IS a sequel to the books

June 19th, 2017 by Marc Comments

We’ve been confident for a long time now that The Dark Tower movie is not just an adaptation of Stephen King’s eight book opus, but also a sequel to them (here).

And now, talking to IGN (below), director Nik Arcel has confirmed without a doubt that this is indeed the case.

“It is, in fact, a continuation,” he said, “It is a canon continuation. That’s exactly what we intended and what Stephen King has signed off on.”

So how can it be a sequel? Well, without getting too spoilerific, at the end of the books Roland of Gilead (Idris Elba) learns that his quest has been unsuccessful and he must go around again, although this time he has a certain artefact in his possession that should assure him success this time.

And that is this movie.

While there is certain controversy around the movie – which we won’t get into here – Arcel assures us that the creator of Midworld, Stephen King, is happy with the movie and, after seeing it, told Arcel: ‘This is not exactly my novel but this is very much the spirt and the tone and I’m very happy.’”

We’re not sure how we feel about this quote…

The Dark Tower opens August 4th.
