WATCH: The final trailer for The Mummy is really building a universe of monsters

May 18th, 2017 by Marc Comments

The final trailer is here for The Mummy reboot…

And it’s making no secret of the fact that it’s going to be setting up a whole universe of related movies… and monsters.

Will you be going to see the creation of the Universal Monsters Universe?

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy is one of several monster movies in the works at Universal, all making up part of this new universe. The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing are all at various stages of development, and, given that history is rife with these sorts of legends and stories, there could be plenty more to come, too.

The Mummy will be released on June 9th.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
